Video Game Culture has been an increasingly important part of the pop cultural landscape, with movies like “The Last of Us” and television series like “Arrow” being made and popular by women, and more recently with films and shows like “Beauty and the Beast.”
However, despite these trends, it’s not entirely clear how these trends are actually impacting the pop culture.
Is it due to gender stereotyping?
Do people feel more comfortable expressing themselves through video games, or are they simply not as likely to talk about themselves on social media?
The answer is, there is no easy answer, according to Christina Della Fave, author of “The Big Game.”
“People don’t necessarily feel like they have a role to play in their own lives,” she told ABC News.
“They may not want to talk to their parents about it, or their friends about it.
I think it’s important for us to talk more about the social norms and how we’re reinforcing those norms.
It’s important that we are aware that there’s this culture that is not inclusive.”
So what are the social and cultural norms that we should be thinking about?
In this episode, “The Game,” we explore the social norm of a game player who is self-conscious about his or her masculinity, Della Foaves says.
Della Foave says that this is the norm in the world of video games and entertainment, and that it’s “very much on display in pop culture.”
“I think it has a lot to do with the way we’ve been taught to look at things.
Video games are a very young medium and a lot of the characters are young and they’re very young, so they’re not very good examples,” she said.
Dalla Foaves adds that people feel “like they’re a character that’s really fragile,” and that they have to keep their self-esteem up in order to keep playing video games.
She says that’s why there’s a sense of “nurturing” and “empowerment” in video games in that people are constantly looking out for themselves.
“It’s not just a game; it’s a social interaction,” Della Foley said.
“We’re all here in this world together, and we have to be willing to put ourselves in other people’s shoes and understand that it doesn’t make us any better or any worse.”
So while it may not be something we want to acknowledge, Dalla Foave feels that the reality of video gaming does reflect the societal norm.
“We’ve always had this idea that video games are kind of a social activity.
But I think that’s just a perception that’s been created by a lot the people that have made games, and a certain subset of the population,” she added.”
I do think it is very important that more people are taking a look at their own self-worth, and self-confidence.
If you look at it from that perspective, there’s so much to celebrate in our society.
It really is a time of liberation and it’s an opportunity for us as humans to get our needs met.
And that’s something we’re all supposed to be able to do.”
